Concord Grape Vignette

Today I set out on my bike with the intent of finding the Headquarters of Welch's, the company that makes grape juice and jelly from Concord Grapes. (Yes, they were named after Concord, MA.) Serendipity took control and I found much more. Such as this house. Rather non-descript, but there is an interesting plaque which explains its importance in history.

This is apparently where Mr. Bull created that most interesting of grapes which you can pop into your mouth and suck the insides out pretending they are eyeballs. At least that's what I used to do when I was a kid. It's juice leaves an amazing stain when spilled. It's also the grape you may have drank at communion. Now it is also being tauted for it's antioxidants.

And here is that grape as I found it growing along the road. I'm not 100% sure that it is a Concord grape, but it is a grape growing in Concord.

And at last what I went in search of.

The headquarters of Welch's in an office park in Concord. As far as office parks go, it was rather nice and out of the way. As an aside, the flowers in front of the building were purple and white, the color of their juices.

You learn something every day. I always thought Welch's was in Western N.Y.

Fascinating. Nothing like eating grapes off of a vine, either! I knew none of this, so thanks for the photos and the neat history lesson!
