Martha Mary Chapel

Henry Ford built this chapel adjacent to the Wayside Inn. He operated a school for indigent boys at the Wayside Inn and these boys built the church from trees recovered from the Hurricane of '38. It was also then used as a school. The chapel is named after Henry and Clara Ford's mothers.

Today, it is commonly used for weddings. In fact, a movie is coming out this Friday, called "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past" starring Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner, and a wedding scene was filmed at the Martha Mary Chapel. Keep your eyes open for it.

What a beautiful church, great photo.
I like Jennifer Garner so I will most likely catch the film, thanks.

What an historic and scenic church! I thought the name was biblical, but I see it's named after mothers, whose names are obviously biblical.

I'm humming "Going to the Chapel"...we got married outside in Yosemite but if we lived in Sudbury, I'd have selected this one. (Our tie to history is that we got our marriage license at California's oldest operational courthouse in Mariposa.)

I love this picture, and I love that you can see the school house peeking out!

It's amazing the old hypocrite would have something like this built.

I'll watch for the movie though.

Great photo!

That is so pretty! And I like its story too — very inspiring. Oh, and I like that little red house peaking over the slope too :)

Jacob - apparently I don't know much about Henry Ford because my husband has the same feelings about him.

Hilda - the little red house is another interesting story for another day.
