Today marks the 300th post on Sudbury Daily Photo. Taking enough good pictures to keep going so long has been a challenge at times. What I have noticed through it all is that even though I have a good DSLR, I want more! One of these lenses would be just the ticket.
The other day one of my loyal visitors suggested I be a sports photographer for a newspaper. Wouldn't that be nice. There were at least 3 sections such as this of photographers at the baseball game. Sign me up. Another interesting thought however is that with at least 25 photographers in the press corps at the game and the thousands of pictures they took, how many were actually published?

Congrats on 300. I would love a lens like the ones in the photo and would also love to have a sports photography job.
A very tough way to make a living. Congratulations on your milestone.
Congrats! 300 posts!
The other day I read it would cost between $20,000 and $40,000 to get the equipment one would need to be a sports photographer.
I'll stick to your game...sitting in the bleachers taking photos of sports photographers with those ridiculous lenses...
Do you know how heavy they are? I've got a couple of long lenses (nothing like these! please!) and I don't use them much.
All the photos aren't so bad now what with digital...but it was a mess when all that film had to be processed!
Congrats for reaching 300!
Maybe one of your commenters will donate one of these phallic lenses to you.
Cafe Pasadena - great idea, Jacob, what do you think? Can you throw in a tripod while you are at it?
Jacob, I figured your employer might pay for equipment. Not true?
Thanks everyone for coming back. You've made it all worthwhile.
I do believe you are right, up to a point. Most newspapers, magazines, etc., have equipment available...but free-lancers are on their own...and from what I've read, there are a lot of free-lance sports photographers.
I could use some of those cameras! Congrats to 300 posts.
Congratulations for the 300th post. I agree with Jacob, I am happier since I get rid of all the heavy lenses for my modest point-and-shoot (more a bridge) camera with a decent stabilized 12x. I never dreamed of carrying a 600mm in my pocket, always and everywhere. And it works, not for a pro maybe, but enough for fun!
Cestitam na 300-sto divnih 'posts'.
I just saw your sports photos...I bet you got better photos than some of those with the mega lenses. The sport photos really are wonderful.
This one is so funny. I know all about lens envy. But I've decided not to 'upgrade' the Canon Rebel lens (18mm-55mm) for a while, so my point and shoot still gets a workout.
