
The purple loosestrife has infested practically the entire U.S. One plant can produce over 2 million seeds per year. Its spread into wetlands cause the the original plant and wildlife to be suppressed by eliminating their natural foods. The flow of water can also be severely impeded.
Too bad it's so darn pretty.

Haven't seen it in N. Michigan, yet. Will be on the look-out for it. I researched it and found it is in every state but Florida. Can't afford the cost of living.
You're right, it's really pretty. But very, very bad, I see.
It is very pretty - I guess pests come in all colors.
I helped out at Bolsa Chica wetlands a couple of summers ago and they had us removing invasive plants like this pretty crystal ice-plant and a few more invasive plants. Like p-loosestrife, they push out the natives. Now when I go by the PV cliffs, I cannot help but notice all the invasive plants.
