Ground Control

When the helicopters were landing in the soccer field a few days ago, another group was grounded because of all the activity. Dick and his friends with the Charles River Radio Controllers had to wait for the helicopters to leave before they could continue flying their planes. Dick was telling me that some of the planes they fly are equipped with video cameras. If you visit their website, you can see some of the video from up above.

I guess this can be an expensive hobby.

This reminds me of a show I saw the other day on PBS. They attached a camera to the neck of a hawk. The video was amazing.

I'm amazed how these guys can control their planes.

Video cameras? Wow!

At Markham Park in the Ft. Lauderdale area, a group meets regularly to fly their planes. We watched them several times.

Quite amazing what they can do. But it is a very expensive hobby!

This is a very nice portrait, Antjas...and the gentleman looks very nice, too.

When are you going to get your own plane?

Jacob, Since I live close to the field where they fly, I'll wait until one drops into my yard and scoop it up.

I guess I'll have to believe you guys that it's an expensive hobby. At least you don't need special sneakers or clothes!

I'd like to have my camera flying around, snapping photos from above, controlled by my laptop...

When he is not flying airplanes, he can usually be found riding his bike. Did you have time to talk good bike rides with him? NH

My brother-in-law is an RC enthusiast. We got one too (surprise, surprise) but it only flew a couple of times.
Nice, happy portrait.
