Every morning on my way to work, I pass the fields in Sudbury where this asparagus grows and is currently being picked. It is a little pricey, but nothing beats asparagus picked just hours before you eat it! It's the time of year for fresh and local produce. Hooray!!! In this area we are blessed with an abundance of farm stands open during the week as well as farmers' markets on Saturdays. Verrill Farm in Concord is one such farm stand.

Looks like heaven. I'll take them all.
I'll just have a couple please! I love asparagus!
So does this make you a stalker???
My mouth is watering! I love asparagus!
Do you know why is costs so much? I've never been able to figure that out? Is it harder to grow? More susceptible to disease?
I don't get it.
Jacob, I think they are just special. It is quite labor intensive to bend to the ground and hand pick. You have to be careful to catch them just in time before they bolt. The season is also very short, I think maybe 2-3 weeks. I also think they take a lot of babying as far as the soil is concerned.
I bought one of these bundles to feed my family of four, luckily, they are foolish and don't like asparagus, so it was all mine.
Lucky you!!!
I can never resist a fruit/veggie stand. These are so nicely displayed. I like them too - hot or cold. 'Moja baka' in Pula-Istra used to pick wild ones - they were really skinny. I did not like them then at all.
HA-HA - Dave the painter is pretty funny.
