Memorial Day

On this Memorial Day, I am honoring Lieutenant Humphry Barrett of Concord, who fought in the Revolutionary War of 1775 and died in 1783 in his 68th year. Lieut. Barrett was 60 years old when he went to war against the British.

In a perfect world, only the old(including me) would fight wars. Then again, in a perfect world there would be no wars. It's hard to fathom the sacrifice he made.

Thanks to Lt. Barrett for his brave service. He was among the first.

It's good to honour a specific person today, as I also did on my blog. It's an interesting headstone and you photographed it well.

I share the wise words of B Squared and appreciate your idea of honoring a real person, a name, a story.

This is so nice. We tend to forget those from so long ago. And Memorial Day is really supposed to be about those who died, not just those who served.

Have a great week!

I think we all need reminding, now and again about the cost of any war.
I am British, served and cannot imagine fighting the US, I for one like Americans and have always found them to be open, honest and hardworking people.
These days I rarely come across a headstone of a serviceman who is older than my current age 53.
I always think they did not die in vain if we remember them and today Lieut Barrett is remembered.
